The initiative was taken by the chief minister of Tamilnadu state to make the student’s life brighter. It has been announced that the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) will implement this program so that more students get access to good coaching facilities and the rate of participation in civil service examination will enhance.
Every year almost 1000 students are selected for the Naan Mudhalvan UPSC scholarship and each selected students get Rs. 7,500/- each month for up to 10 months before their preliminary examination.

Naan Mudhalvan Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship initiated by the state government of Tamil Nadu. Through this scholarship program, students who belong to the financially backward section will get the financial benefit to cover their educational costs for UPSC coaching.
Both freshers and droppers can apply for this scholarship and they must have to satisfy the given age criteria. 50 seats are reserved for the freshers candidates and 950 seats are reserved for the droppers candidates. Every year almost 1000 students are shortlisted for Naan Mudhalvan UPSC scholarship.

Freshers and droppers have different age crireia:
Freshers age:
- Minimum 21 and Maximum 22 years old.
Regular:
- Minimum age is 21 years old.

- Differently Abled candidate: 42 years.
- BC/BC (M) / MBC/DNC: 35 years.
- General candidate: 32 years.
- The candidates who are already been working in the government sector are not eligible for this scholarship.

This is an objective examination (OMR-based) exam that consists total of two parts:

- CSAT
